Notice what emerged out of the carcass of Iraq after the Anglo-American savages brutalized it to death from 2003-onwards: a magnifying al-Qaeda rump offshoot calling itself the "Islamic State" that claims territorial authority over "Iraq/Mesopotamia and al-Sham." (in other words: whenever pan-Arab unity on secular nationalist grounds is destroyed, its broad tenets are cynically co-opted by some variety of a Muslim Brotherhood anti-Islamic "Islamic fundamentalist"/"pan-Islamism" umbrella) Notice also that Iran played the same duplicitous hand accordingly in both the Iraq and Syria dirty wars, the latter instigating (2011) right when the former "ended." In Iraq, Saddam's Ba'athists were a "scapegoat" to Iran, whereas in Syria, Assad's Ba'athists were a "sacrigoat," but the two empirical modus operandi furcated routes are two sides of the same coin.
Additionally, Hafez's support for Khomeini in the Iran-Iraq War was not out of saintly aspirations. In 1979, Hafez was apparently in contact with the nascent "Islamic Revolution" right as he on the other prong -- in his contacts with Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr's administration -- advocated a "Syrian-Iraqi unity." It was not a genuine overture of unity, but a duplicitous ruse to instrumentalize that pretense in order to plant Syrian intelligence assets into the halls of Iraqi governance to compromise its standing and erode its sovereignty. If Saddam had not executed those traitorous agents/useful idiots on Jul. 22, 1979, Hafez would have succeeded in manufacturing just enough of an internal crisis within Iraq's government clearing the way for Khomeini to "export" his un-Islamic so-called "Islamic Revolution" into Iraq and mass-slaughter Iraqis just as the Zionist-backed al-Nusra/ISIS savages killed innocent Syrians in the 2010s.
